Happy Gilmore

"You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?"

Happy Gilmore is a funny movie. I watched it the other night and forgot how good it is. I have seen this movie easily over 100 times not counting all the way through. Everyone who is anyone has seen this movie:)

Happy Gilmore is about a reject hockey player who thinks he is excellent but never makes the hockey team. His life is going nowhere and his grandmother hasn't paid her taxes in a really long time. Once he finds out the house is being seized he needs to come up with a lot of money. He ends up enrolling in golf tournaments to raise the money to keep the house. He ends up gaining friends and rivals through the process and finds out he's a pretty good hockey player too.

Adam Sandler is just another goofy asshole character in this movie, but that is why he plays it so well. I would have put this higher on my list if I had remembered it before. So just because it is post 16 doesn't mean it isint as funny as the other ones.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

"Chip, Im gonna come at you like a spider monkey"

Talladega nights is a pretty stupid movie. This blog is also starting to get pretty long so I'm running out of 5 star ideas. I would say this is at least a 3 star movie for me. Like I said before, I really like Will Ferrell in most of his movies.

Talladega Nights is about a racecar driver, (Ricky Bobby) who loves racing. One day he gets in a horrible crash and from there on thinks he can't drive again. He is too afraid to be behind the wheel. Along with the help of his deranged family, father and friends he figures out a way to race again with a huge come back.

The movie is predictable, yes. It also is as dumb as most Will Ferrell movies are most people would say, but I happen to laugh at it everytime I've seen it. HIs costar, John Reilly, is in a lot of movies with him and he is his wing man in this one too.

Waiting

"Welcome to Thunderdome, Bitch"

Waiting puts its own little weird spin on a comedy movie. It is definitely a crude humor one. I first watched it because my sister introduced it to me. I didn't like it the first couple times I watched it but it's pretty good.

Waiting is about a bunch of screwed up freaks working together in one restaurant called Shenaniganz (I found out after this blog that there really is a restaurant named Shenaniganz). Their restaurant is anything but normal. They do disgusting things to the food and have "inter-office" relationships. THe movie follows a day at he restaurant and what that means for these employees.

I wouldn't suggest this for the faint of heart. It will most likely offend a lot of people in the process of watching it. This isin't one of my favorite comedy movies of all time but it's pretty good so it deserves a spot on my list here. They actually made a sequel called Still Waiting but it's horrible so don't see it! I also like Dane Cook and he made an appearance in this movie.

Step Brothers

"Boats and hoes! Boats and hoes!"

Step Brothers was such an unexpected movie.I certainly did not think this movie was going to be this funny. Like the others on this list, it is now one of my personal favorite movies even outside of the comedy section.

Step Brothers is about 2 stupid, unemployed grown men who still live at home with their mother and father. When their parents meet and decide to get married, the wife and her son (Will Ferrell) move in with the father and his son (John Reilly) as well. The movie follows the family trying to get along and how hard that is for their two sons at first. In the end, yup you guessed it, they become the bestest of friends. It's not the predictable story plot that makes this movie good or funny. It's the ridiculous things these two say and do along the way.

I'm pretty sure anyone who has a sense of humor enjoys this movie. I know a lot of people who hate the two main characters but I love both of them especially together. If you havn't yet...check out this movie!

Superbad

"What? One name? ONE NAME? Who are you? Seal?"

Yes, Superbad is on the list. I know it's been around for three years and because of that most people are sick of it being shoved down their throats. To be honest, I am a little sick of it too, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be on this list.

Superbad follows 3 friends Evan, Seth and Fogell. It is their senior year and have all got accepted into college. The movie follows the 3 of them and their dumb escapades. The main part of the movie is about the 3 of these friends getting alcohol and trying to get to a "cool" party and the lengths they will go to make it there.

I personally didn't see what all the fuss was about when I first saw the movie. I didn't think it was hilarious right away. I didn't really appreciate the comedy or the movie itself until the 4th or so time I watched it. As weird as it is to say this, my parents think the movie is absoloutly histerical. We've watched it together before when it has been on TV. We actually sing some of the song Evan from the movie sings ("these eyes") as a little inside joke.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

"Oh, he's drunk. How would he know where we're going? "

This movie was made in 1987 which was before I was even born. Like The Jerk, Planes, Trains & Automobiles is a movie that is one of my favorites because my mom made me watch it originally with her. It has almost become an inside joke between us now and we will recite lines from it every once in a while.

Neal Page (Steve Martin) is trying to get home to his house and family on Thanksgiving. His flight becomes cancelled due to bad weather, so he tries to find another way to find a way to get home. Neal is then graced with the presence of Del Griffith (John Candy). Along the way of their motivation to get home, they get in weird situations with each other. They get their money stolen to being almost killed on the highway.

This movie is older so it might not appeal to all comedy audiences. I thought it deserved a spot on my list of comedy movies because I personally like it and there's nothing like a movie from the 80's!

Ace Ventura:Pet Detective

"If I'm not back in five minutes... just wait longer. "

Like I said before, I really like Jim Carrey as an actor and think he is hilarious. This is only one of the reasons this movie made it on the list, besides the fact that it is a great comedy movie.

Ace Ventura is an out of the ordinary animal detective played by Jim Carrey. In the movie he is assigned a case dealing with the Miami Dolphins mascot which goes missing right before the Superbowl. Through out the movie he is on a mission to bring back the missing dolphin and be the hero. He does his detective work the whole time which is completely unorthodox.

The clip below is just an example of how great Jim Carrey is as Ace Ventura:

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was a great role for Jim Carrey. Later on in his career he still ends up doing movies with the same character as Ace which are extremely goofy. I'm guessing most people have heard of this movie before and some of you would go against it being on my comedy blog, but that's exactly why it's not your blog:)

Dumb and Dumber

"According to the map, we've only gone about 4 inches."

I love Jim Carrey, and this movie is of his earlier years. Dumb and Dumber has captured the hearts of many with it's stupidity.

Dumb and Dumber is about two best buds, Lloyd and Harry, who are really stupid people. The whole point of the movie is the two of them on a mission to return a briefcase to a woman. They travel far and along the way pick up hitch hikers, end up killing someone and pulling pranks on people. They don't know what is in the suitcase and choose not to look, and also because it is locked. The rest of the movie shows the shennanigans they encounter and go through along the way to Aspen to return the briefcase to its rightful owner. I'm not going to give away any parts of the movie or the funny parts because you'll have to see it for yourself if you havn't yet.

This movie is definitely a must see. I have seen it at least 100 times and that is certainly not a lie. They actually came out with a prequel to the movie called 'Dumb and Dumberer' but it was a huge flop and hopefully would never make it on anyones list of great comedy movies. As far as the first movie goes, it deserves a spot in my book.
